installing mandrake 9.1 (3cd) on maxtor 20gb
got problem bcoz installing from a CDs that ISO images downloaded from internet which sometimes paused and resumed

so as a conclusion install on KDE and GNOME other application can be installed after I see the desktop

And the Desktop is COOOLLLL!!!!!

installing mandrake 9.1 (3cd) on new harddrive maxtor 20gb
because the old harddrive (mandrake 9.0 seagate 4.3gb) got problem with my hardware
i got 2 nic eth0 3com eth1 dlinkdfe538tx unplug eth1 => result can't browse the network!!!
i got 1 cdrom on /dev/hdc but new cd-rw installed on hdc old cdrom move to hdd => result can't using cdrom!!!
xine => can't play vcd anymore, first the sound just missing chg to oss then just can't play vcd again :( !!!

i am installing kmysqladmin, mysqlclient for administering my sqlserver on other pc, installing apache for sharing my data (not only with samba but with http also to reduce virus infection via file sharing) also samba-swat to administer my sharing :)

want to install abiword as my wordprocessor but it require latest glibc.
download glibc and install it using standard prosedur (configure, make, make install) but failed. so abiword installation cancelled.
note right now for office I am not using ms office with wine but gnome-office and staroffice because their compability with msoffice files. I wonder why koffice didn't do the same thing rather have their own format

mau tahu kenapa gnome adalah best window desktop juga???
karena gnome mempunyai tampilan yang simple, bersih dan tampak kuat. dan di bawah bendera gnome desktop ada aplikasi aplikasi bagus (abiword, gnumeric, evolution, gtelnet, gnozip, gimp, mrproject, gnomba dan masih banyak lagi) mereka semua tersedia bagi gnome desktop walaupun di kde bisa di execute dengan catatan gnome libs nya tersedia. :)
tapi yang menonjol dari aplikasi2x gnome adalah kemiripin dan kekompabilitasan aplikasi tersebut dengan program2x yang ada di windows. wow!!!

pokoke bisa ngeprint

found some problems,
fonts I usually used for viewing the website is differs
when I am trying to print website from mozilla it's also print different fonts. (Using IE is the best experience for browsing)

You cannot import these files directly into Evolution because the .pst
format
is a proprietary format. However, Mozilla Mail on Windows can convert
them
into the mbox format, which can then be imported by Evolution.

Mozilla on Windows can access the .pst Outlook files because it can use
the
Windows MAPI.DLL library. Using MAPI.DLL is the only way to access .pst
files, and it can be used under a Windows operating system.

To start importing your Outlook mail to Evolution, run Mozilla Mail on
Windows and select the Importer to begin:

File > Import

Then select that you wish to import Mail from Outlook. Once Mozilla has
imported all your mail, reboot your computer into Linux.

Mount your Windows partition in Linux and run Evolution to begin
importing
your mail. Select the Importer from the File menu to start importing:

File > Import File...

Set the file type to "MBox (mbox)" and click on [Browse] to select the
file
containing mail you want to import.

If you are the only user on Windows, the mail files will be stored
in /mnt/c/windows/Application
Data/Mozilla/Profiles/default/XXXX/Mail/imported.mail/ where /mnt/c/ is

windows partition mount point and XXXX is some collection of numbers and

If there is more than one user, the file will be

For each mail folder in Outlook, Mozilla will convert the folder into

word, excel, powerpoint => ok, bisa read dan write
outlook 2000 => ok bisa read and write, send and receive tapi ada bug pada saat tree nya di tutup ngga mau ke buka lagi....... :)

you must be wondering why i am trying to ms app (ms office on linux)
let see... i am succesfully access my data on ntfs and I need some program to edit my documents and keep their compatibility between other users which is still using windows and office
the following.. is my options:
1. migrate my data into linux apps (and forget compability with other users which using windows) let's start new life with linux
2. or run windows application on linux using wine (i'll give my result later when running office on linux via wine)
3. install (and buy) codeweavers crossover office which they can run ms office flawlesly on linux
4. install (and buy) Xandros or lindows (OS Linux) which they say can run many windows apps

This little guide explains how you can install XPde on Mandrake Linux.

install winamp skin on xmms
Using Winamp Skins with XMMS

This article explains using XMMS player for mp3 playback under Linux. XMMS is
the default player that comes along with Redhat Linux. It is an excellent music
player. The article basically lets you know how to use Winamp Skins with XMMS.

Procedure :

1. To run this application all you have to do is type xmms at the prompt (bash).
Alternatively you could also use 'Run Program' option from Gnome Program Menu to
type this command.
There might be an entry for XMMS in the Gnome Program -> Multimedia Menu as
well.

2. XMMS creates a hidden directory in your account root folder. For the superuser
this would generally be /root/.xmms
For a normal user with a home directory /home/harry it would mostly be
/home/harry/.xmms

3. This folder in turn would have a folder called Skins ( /root/.xmms/Skins ).
Inside this folder you could copy all your Winamp skins and all of them would
work with XMMS.

Note : The skins have to be in .zip format. The newer Winamp skins are available
in .wsz format, rename these to .zip before using them with XMMS.

4. The best part about Linux is that most of the configuration data for
applications is stored in plain text format. Even for XMMS all the configuration
data is stored in a file named config ( /root/.xmms/config ). This file can be
viewed using any text editor such as vi or emacs or gnp. You can edit the values
directly in this file.
For example if you have a skin on some File System which is already mounted and
for some reason you cannot copy that skin to the XMMS Skins folder, directly
edit the line in this configuration file which points to the Current Skin being
used and make it point it to the skin on the other File System.
